The
World Bank, on 16 October 2003, approved a $240 million loan for the Allahabad bypass
project that is part of the Delhi-Kolkata side of NHAI’s Golden Quadrilateral
Project.
This
is the last stretch on the entire 6,000 km GQ project for which contracts are
yet to be awarded. The 84 km Allahabad bypass is located on the northern outskirts
of Allahabad city and would be designed as a four-lane access controlled
highway.
The
84.7-km Allahabad bypass is the last remaining section of the Golden
Quadrilateral. It is to be located at the northern outskirts of Allahabad city
and designed as a four-lane access controlled highway.
The
bypass, representing Contract III B of the Khaga-Varanasi stretch on NH-2,
consists of three packages:
1. Bridge (1.02km) from KM 158 - KM 159.02
2. 4-lane highway (38 km) from KM 159.02 to KM 197.02
3. 4-lane highway (45 km) from KM 197.02 to KM 242.02
